Am I a yoga queen? No. Have I mastered downward dogs? God no. Do I enjoy it? Yes. Can I feel a day if I skip? I creak like an 80 year old. Since February of 2015, I’ve done yoga almost everyday for 20-30 minutes a day. When my fitbit buzzes at 7:45 am every morning, I lay out the yoga mats and wait to hear my mom’s car pull down the driveway. Some days we force ourselves and other days we challenge ourselves. Some days it’s too nice outdoors to be locked in the studio, so we go for a walk.
It’s these bright sunny mornings that I say hmmm wouldn’t it be nice to do yoga outside. The grass is dewy which I’m sure would make my downward dog become a downward face plant. Problem solved this weekend. Bruce built an outdoor yoga platform for us.
I’ve been busy all spring digging and planting new flower gardens around the new spot in anticipation. I have a lot of new baby plants waiting to grow up around the new platform. Two more trays of flowers at least need to go in.
A nice quiet place to do yoga and do a little deep breathing meditation when crazy clients, hackers and timelines loom over my head. Here’s some of our progress from day one of the build.
- 13 – Pressure Treated 2 x 8 x 8
- 7 – Pressure Treated 2 x 4 x 8
- 2 – Pressure Treated 2 x 4 x 10
- Scrap wood was used for the top piece
- 3″ Spiral Deck Nails 2 boxes
Build a frame and make sure to have a handy yellow dog as your partner and that the frame is level.
Add three supports in the middle.
Ignore my scary garden back there. Gardens are still a work in progress!
Nail boards into frame and support.
I had fun weeding, weeding, weeding and planting. I did finish the vegetable garden today. I get to go and weed and weed this spot more tomorrow.
PS Make sure you count all your boards so you don’t have to go back to the store for one last piece. I’m not saying this happened…. Nope not us.
Then you might as well make a decorative back that I can grow vines on and what not.
Oh and to hang fun meditation bells on. Cuz if you’re gonna do it you got to get the bells!
Then after all that hard work. Watch the sun go down and do some meditation.
I’m sure the neighbors are all scratching their heads. What the heck are those crazy Gleason’s doing now. Anyway, next is staining and maybe doing a nice decorative stencil on the top. Oh and weeding. I got a mess of peonies with grass growing up everywhere in my future tomorrow. Then I’ll need to meditate and take some deep breaths afterwards.
