We’ve been working hard on the farm all summer. Any time off from our regular businesses, we’ve been doing our best to bring the farm back to life. If you’ve read this blog at all you know that our dirt is less than prime. Every year our garden gets a little bit better. Having a full fledged veggie stand isn’t going to happen overnight. I had an aha moment a couple weeks ago. One thing we can grow in abundance is herbs. They like it here. Why not focus on what does grow good in our soil. The lavender, chives, basil, and thyme are always in abundance.
This summer, the focus has been on herbs. Having lots of fun trying new recipes, learning how to dry herbs and distilling is on the horizon. Packaging was ordered and maybe a small stand will be operational with some dried herbs. And next summer, we should be full of herbs. Thought you would like to come along for the ride from the start.
We made a special white wine chive vinegar. The family got to taste test it yesterday. I have to say it was a big hit since I had to remind my mom to share the sample and let me try. We will have a limited amount of the vinegar this season. I’ll let you know when it’s available. It’s going to be delicious with a salad dressing or a marinade for fish and chicken.
